Jimmy V's Playbook

This printed and bound book connects Jim Valvano’s "Don't Ever Give Up" speech from the 1993 ESPY Awards to Kobe Bryant's 2015 poem,"Dear Basketball."

Through the design, I wanted to juxtapose a coach's perspective with a player's on what being on a team has meant for them. I thought Valvano’s message about living life to its fullest complemented Bryant's words of strength and determination. Because they both shared a nostalgic tone, my goal was to create a book that both motivates the reader and commemorates the two authors.

This book was printed on Mohawk Gloss Pure White paper. Typefaces: Kairos, Franklin Gothic.
